Do you have what it takes to protect and improve the special environment of Devon Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, from the harmful effects of Environmental Crime?
Are you a capable and experienced investigator able to take on some of the most difficult and complicated cases that the Area deals with?
Do you have a proactive approach to enforcement, and are you comfortable in working closely with other teams across the Area to ensure that the investigations we conduct are effective and professional.
The primary focus of this role is in dealing with the more serious waste crime in the Area, but it can also support or lead investigations in all of the other enforcing teams in the Area, including Land and Water, Regulatory Waste and Flood Risk.
ECOs are seen as experts in their field and are often approached by other officers for advice and support
The Team is made up of officers with experience and capability in Enforcement. We work closely together across the Area to prevent and disrupt environmental crime, and undertake investigations into serious offending. The team works closely with the other regulatory teams across the Area, to support investigations, and to improve the professionalism and effectiveness of our enforcement responses.
We are also linked closely to National Enforcement teams, and on occasions support their Major Investigations
We are looking for an individual who can bring a high level of capability in enforcement to the Area, to lead and support on some of the most difficult cases.
Experience of carrying out enforcement, knowledge of the relevant legislation and our own enforcement procedures is required.
Additional specialist enforcement qualifications, or the willingness to attain these would be advantageous.
The nature of the role on occasion brings ECOs into contact with hostile individuals in challenging settings. You need to feel confident that you could manage these situations safely and effectively.
You should be familiar with the organisation’s strategy for reducing environmental crime, including the 4P’s approach. You should understand the benefits of using intelligence in enforcement, and seek opportunities to use this approach wherever possible.
You must be an exemplar in the use of enforcement systems, for example the our intelligence database, Memex and the Case Management System, CMS
If you wish to discuss this post further, please contact Chris Lawson, Area Enforcement Team Leader at Chris.Lawson@environment-agency.gov.uk or Richard Cloke, Senior Environmental Crime Officer at Richard.cloke@environment-agency.gov.uk
