We’re looking for a Senior Environmental Monitoring Officer with freshwater ecological experience to lead and directly engage with our citizen science partnership working. You will contribute by providing technical support on collaborative monitoring programmes for ecology, fish, and water quality through an understanding of how citizen science data is used to drive required outcomes whilst ensuring all data collected is of the highest quality with consistent standards. You will support citizen science innovations and development of integrated platforms for data storage and sharing across partner organisations.
To complement the work of the catchment partnerships you will be working with area EA teams to coordinate and integrate citizen science groups and projects within the Lincolnshire & Northamptonshire Area. You will also contribute to a national working group, sharing learning and best practice from test catchments. Feedback successes and challenges to help the EA develop an effective and consistent approach to this work across the country and provide the best environmental outcomes.
The Analysis & Reporting team collects and provides freshwater biological and water quality data to support and feed into all monitoring obligations tailored for delivery of our local and national environmental outcome plans. Our data is used by internal and external customers, and it delivers a vital service that underpins much of the Environment Agency’s statutory responsibilities relating to national legislation.
We are seeking a Senior Environmental Monitoring Officer with freshwater ecological field and desk-based experience who can use their knowledge and expertise to communicate and influence colleague and partnership working to maximise outcomes for the environment.
You’ll be qualified to a higher education level in a relevant discipline with the relevant competencies:
Technical/scientific knowledge - experience in planning and delivering a range of monitoring and analysis techniques. Use of innovative ways of monitoring the freshwater environment
Communication – ability to communicate to a wide variety of stakeholders using different techniques
Influencing/persuading – using data and evidence to influence and effect change for positive environmental outcomes
Working with partners/collaborative working – experience in partnership working with the ability to identify key players to focus collaboration work in order to achieve your goals.
Managing data and information – use of appropriate data tools for statistical analysis & interpretation of ecological data.
The role will be based in one of the Lincolnshire & Northamptonshire offices, although travelling to field locations across the relevant area is required and therefore the posts require a full UK driving licence to be held.
