You will be responsible for planning and managing the delivery of our flood risk management and emergency response work, ensuring work is delivered on time, to the right standard and in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines. You will help to develop the program of work and coordinating its delivery through our staff and contractors, by creating the necessary paperwork for each task and actively monitor its correct delivery. You may be expected to take the lead on the planning and delivery of higher risk construction projects. You will provide effective leadership on health and safety matters and actively promote safe working practices. You will ensure that site work fully complies with our health, safety and environmental policies. You will lead an effective incident response capability and you will participate in a standby roster for incident response. Please note this is a post that will provide support and resilience to a number of Wessex Field Teams e.g. covering periods of extended absence and Wessex wide projects or issues. Where STM vacancies arise in the future we would look for this postholder to provide natural succession and move to that team, therefore this post requires flexibility in working location and team.
The post is based within the Wessex Area; Bradney Depot and will work across the Somerset patch. Teams carry out work to maintain our river and flood defence assets and respond to flood and pollution incidents. We work across the country when other areas need assistance during major incidents. The postholder will also part of an out of hours incident response rota.
You need to be an excellent leader as this role will cover for the Team leader in their absence. You should have an understanding of flood risk management and priorities. You should understand the principles of health, safety and wellbeing to ensure the safety of yourself and others. Experience of managing contractors, CDM Regulations and working with partners and stakeholders is desirable. You should be experienced in delivering and leading a program of work by planning, tracking, gathering and maintaining data/information (project management skills are desirable). You need strong communication skills and experience of working with the public. You should have the ability to use your initiative and work as part of a team to make decisions and achieve planned outcomes, taking remedial action where necessary. You should be computer literate with a proven ability to use Microsoft office and other computer-based work scheduling applications.
