The Environment Agency are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We don’t just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities and our environment. Everyone starting in a new role will be welcomed into the team and given all the training and support needed. As part of your induction, you will be provided with all the equipment required for your role.

We are looking for an Advisor to support the Chemicals Programme, which is leading work to protect the environment from the manufacture, use and disposal of chemicals. You do not need a technical chemical background as this role will be part of programme management, not a technical role.

We want to change the way we fund our chemicals work so that funding is more secure in future, to ensure we continue to protect the environment. Your role is to investigate suitable funding options and support implementation of new funding options. This would include the following:
• working with the Senior Advisor leading the work and working across teams
• working with external stakeholders such as Defra and the other regulators
• assessing data and information to support future funding decisions
• organising and participating in meetings
• contribute to preparation and delivery of papers and presentations for managers
• providing updates to, and communicating with, a range of parties

The post sits within the Environment & Business Directorate, in Water Land and Biodiversity. However, Chemicals work is cross cutting so you will work across the Environment Agency and with Defra.

You’ll have an inclusive incident management objective in your development plan, so we’ll support you to find an incident role to suit your needs and circumstances. Appropriate training will be given.
The Programme Delivery Team is a welcoming and motivated team within Water and Land Quality. We lead Programme and Project Management within the Chemicals Programme, helping to shape how the organisation regulates chemicals in the future. We are a dispersed team, combining home and office-based working and meet in person on a regular basis.
You will have the following experience or skills:
• be motivated, organised and able to work on your own initiative
• able to balance multiple pieces of work
• be flexible and able to respond positively to changing circumstances and priorities
• delivering at pace to tight timescales and working with uncertainty
• communicate effectively and adapt communication style to suit audience
• able to work with a wide range of internal and external customers and stakeholders
• work collaboratively and inclusively across teams
• influencing others to achieve positive outcomes
• competent in use of sharepoint and excel
The role will be based at an Environment Agency office, ideally a central location but other locations considered. Regular travel required e.g. around twice a month, to other offices and locations including Sheffield, Birmingham and Bristol (sometimes requiring overnight stays).

A reserve list will be held for this role for up to 6 months.

Interviews will be conducted via video call. This is likely to be w/c 8 April 2024, but could change.
