Are you passionate about protecting and enhancing the environment? We have an exciting opportunity to join our Midlands non-nuclear Radioactive Substances Regulation (nnRSR) Team.

This Technical Leader role will provide specialist support and technical leadership to our nnRSR team within our Regulated Industry department.

You will be required to take an active role nationally and within the East and West Midlands Areas providing specialist support on radioactive substances, technical assurance on area delivery and coaching and mentoring other team members.

You will undertake inspections of complex permitted sites ensuring compliance and contributing to both security of radioactive sources and protection of the environment.

As a specialist and technical leader, you will support the wider Regulated Industry function on priority work and assurance.
Our welcoming and inclusive team covers sites across the East and West Midlands Areas.

These Areas provide a diverse range of environmental challenges.

Location can be flexible across the area but regular travel to Nottingham will be expected.

You will also have a key leadership role in supporting the wider Area and Regulated Industry teams, giving technical advice and support on complex regulatory issues.
You will be an experienced regulator able to demonstrate your considerable operational experience and knowledge of radioactive substances and their regulation.

With excellent technical knowledge, communication and interpersonal skills you will be able to demonstrate how you would provide and contribute technical resilience to radioactive substances regulation in the Midlands and the non-nuclear radioactive substances function.

Confident and flexible in how you approach and respond to changing priorities, including incident response, you will hold a degree in a scientific discipline and ideally hold Radioactive Waste Compliance Advisor accreditation.
You will do vital, purposeful work that influences and protects lives, places and communities.

The Environment Agency is a Category 1 responder, and you will be expected to participate in the standby rota which may include out of hours working.

We are committed to making our organisation as diverse as the environment and representative of the communities we serve. We therefore welcome applications from all sections of the community.

Above all, it is your environment, so we want you to play a role in its protection. This is your opportunity to make a real difference, not only in the landscape but also to people’s lives.
