The Fens in the East of England are uniquely complex, and this lowland landscape is highly vulnerable to a changing climate. This role will lead and deliver the Fens 2100+ Project, a single ‘landscape wide’ programme covering the landscape from Cambridge to the Humber.

You and the project team will be responsible for developing adaptation investment plans for the 5 fen catchments which make up the fens landscape. These adaption and investment plans will determine what investments in flood risk management assets are required both in the short and longer term (up to 25 years) so that the Fens landscape can adapt and mitigate the current and future risks of climate change.

This role will lead the commitments to the Fens within the National Flood & Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy; working across two Environment Agency Areas and in collaboration with partner flood authorities, the farming community, and Water Resources East.

You will also be the lead face of the Environment Agency collaboration called Future Fens: Integrated Adaptation. As co-sponsors of this work, we are proud to have been showcased internationally at COP26, so there will be commitments and momentum to build on.

You will work on behalf of the Environment Agency Area Directors of both East Anglia and Lincs & Northants Areas.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

You will directly lead the Fens 2100+ Project Team with 3 direct reports.

You will also be part of the leadership teams for both East Anglia and Lincs & Northants Areas, working closely with the three Area Flood & Coastal Risk Managers covering the Fens geography, their teams, as well as colleagues in the National EA FCRM Directorate.
The Fens 2100+ already has a strong national profile. Your ability to build and sustain networks and relationships across a range of stakeholder sectors, working nationally and locally, will be crucial. You will be an engaging and articulate communicator.

Your ability to lead through complexity will be vital, as is working with and through others, supporting and directing the project team.
You will need to use your previous experience to build relationships across a wide geographical patch with multiple stakeholders to build consensus.

A full UK driving licence is essential.
