Our Digital, Data and Evidence teams provide expert technical advice to support development that is more resilient to climate change. The role of the Land Use Planning Flood Risk Modeller is crucial in the technical assurance of hydraulic model and hydrology evidence supporting planning applications.
Your expertise will support customers and partners through undertaking hydraulic model and hydrology evidence reviews for planning applications. You will work in a team of technical experts to deliver the Land Use Planning service. You will have the opportunity to develop and specialise your skills and complete your professional accreditation.
As a Flood Risk Modeller in Land Use Planning, you’ll be responsible for assuring the evidence to deliver this service as part of Digital, Data and Evidence.
You will:
• Analyse, review and assure hydraulic and hydrological model evidence that underpins a range of flood risk reduction schemes, national infrastructure and sustainable development.
• Lead, coach and nurture an establishing centre of excellence for modelling, putting your own development at the heart of what we do.
• Communicate complex flood risk analyses and uncertainty to internal/external stakeholders.
• Advise on appropriate tools and techniques for hydrological and hydraulic modelling approaches.
• Promote inclusion by understanding and respecting differences in our workforce.
• Develop a positive health, safety, and wellbeing culture.
• Foster innovation to become more efficient and sustainable
Land Use Planning sits within Digital, Data and Evidence in Flood and Coastal Risk Management.
We are the Environment Agency’s experts in flood hydrology and modelling. We ensure that the right evidence is available to the right people at the right time to enable better, safer planning decisions.

You will ideally be able to demonstrate some of the following:
Expert knowledge and leadership in flood modelling and hydrology.
Experience with flood modelling software, such as Flood Estimation Guidelines, Flood Modeller, TuFLOW, InfoWorks ICM.
Experience in data processing and management, and Geographical Information System (GIS) software packages.
Mentoring and coaching skills, as well as a commitment to continuous development.
Ability to work alone, as well as part of team, to make decisions and solve problems.
Excellent communication skills, particularly of complex problems to non-expert audiences.
A curious, open, and inclusive mindset, with a commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity.
Influencing and persuading skills.

As Land Use Planning is a national team, there is flexibility around base office locations across England. We support flexible working; however, we do have quarterly team meetings which we encourage all team members to attend in person.
