This role is extremely varied and draws upon a diverse range of transferrable skills. Working closely with other teams, you can expect to be involved in any of the following:

• Advising local planning authorities
• Issuing Flood Risk Activity permits and undertaking compliance checks.
• Engaging with communities and businesses
• Responding to enquiries, including using GIS mapping and modelling data
• Leading or supporting the delivery of projects
• Supporting development of modelling outputs
• Responding to flooding incidents

In order to manage your diverse workload you will need to be able to manage your time well to ensure you deliver to tight deadlines.
The Hampshire and IOW PSO team work closely with our partners to minimise the risks of flooding. We influence the location and design of new developments, ensure flood risk is not increased by works in or near watercourses and also influence spatial planning. The team also takes a strategic overview of all flood risk and works with partners to plan, fund and deliver new flood risk management schemes that better protect communities from flooding.
You will have first-class communications skills and the ability to develop strong relationships with internal and external partners as well as the general public.
You will be expected to:
• Be skilled at managing multiple priorities and competing demands
• Be able to show where you’ve worked with others to deliver success
• Be an intelligent problem solver with a methodical work approach

Experience in the following areas would be an advantage:
• Working within and knowledge of flood risk management
• Leading relationships and engaging with both internal and external customers to achieve multiple outcomes
• Project and/or programme management skills
• An engineering or science background and, ideally, a relevant degree (or equivalent) or professional qualification
