Flooding represents a crucial challenge both now and into the future, as the impacts of climate change become apparent. The Environment Agency has a key role to play in the management and reduction of flood risk. As a Flood and Coastal Risk Management Advisor in the Partnerships and Strategic Overview Data & Evidence Team, you will be key in ensuring that we have the right evidence available to get the best outcomes for people, infrastructure, and the environment.

You will be expected to lead the delivery of our flood risk management modelling projects by building effective relationships with communities and community leaders, professional partners, internal specialists and suppliers. Technical Advisors in this team are integral to seeking opportunities to deliver environmental improvements alongside our flood schemes. Our ambition is to work with natural processes and in partnership with land managers and environmental groups. The role is key to enable the delivery significant flood and coastal erosion risk management schemes & the delivery of the national targets for reducing flood risk to properties over the next 6 years.

Data and Evidence underpins everything that we do in managing the impacts of Climate Change and protecting people and enhancing our environment.
The post holder will report to the Wessex PSO Data & Evidence Team Leader. The geographic area covers the whole of Wessex (Bristol, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch) area. The role is focused on providing an overview of the Mapping and Modelling Programme working with the public, external & internal partners and suppliers. The post holder will be supporting and looking for opportunities to deliver innovative & adaptive solutions to flood risk.
We are looking for someone who has:
• A knowledge of flood risk management issues, and/or land management issues across Wessex would be preferable.
• Experience and understanding of Flood Modelling software and Flood Estimation techniques.
• Ability to define technical Modelling requirements, to lead on the production of Scopes.
• Programme \ Project management \ governance experience would be desirable.
• Competent user of GIS.
• Proven experience of working with and building effective relationships with our partners and external organisations. Preferably with experience working locally.
• Very good negotiation and persuasion skills, with the ability to achieve successful outcomes.
• A proactive approach and fresh perspective.

The role will have a strong focus on Modelling and Programme Management. We are looking for someone with a relevant degree. A combination of formal qualifications and some experience through to no formal qualification and substantial experience is acceptable
This vacancy is for a Permanent role.

The Environment Agency is a Category 1 responder. You will be expected to participate in our response to incidents and have a role in an incident, which may include out of hours working.
Travel throughout the area is expected. Therefore, a full driving licence is required for this role.
