Devon, Cornwall and The Isles of Scilly need an Environment Planning Officer. Do you hold a passion for the environment, would you like the opportunity to protect and enhance a very special place. You’ve seen it in Poldark and The Night Manager and we believe we have an environment to envy but only if we keep it that way. That’s where you come in. You will manage the flow of data and information that creates the baseline for driving operational activity across whole catchments. We work in a multifunctional way across water quality and resources, bridging FCRM and E&B ensuring that you will identify solutions to the key environmental issues faced across Devon, Cornwall and The Isles of Scilly Area. You will have particular focus and responsibilities on water resource management - working to ensure that the right amount of water is in the right place at the right time for people and the environment. You can truly make a difference through delivering multi-functional environmental outcomes. “Come on in the waters fine,” but with your help it could be better.
The team is made up of planning specialists and officers and focuses on agriculture, water quality, water resources and river basin planning. Planning Officers are multi-functional and ‘own’ their catchment including the data, evidence and relationships within them.

Our work helps to ensure that delivery on the ground, whether EA or partners, is as effective and efficient as it can be and provides as much for the environment as possible for every pound spent.
The successful candidate will have a good understanding of our business and environmental activities, complementing strong IT skills. Experience of using the Catchment Planning System (CPS), GIS and water quality planning tools is desirable.

Ideally you will have a degree in an environmental subject and/or experience in either water resources or river basin planning. You will be free thinking and able to visualise your catchment, be methodical and organised, challenging convention, delivering high quality work to defined deadlines. Experience or knowledge of the abstraction licensing regime and systems and approaches is essential.

You’ll possess proven ability and/or knowledge in the following areas:
• Data and information management
• Communicates effectively
• Focuses on customers and partners
• Environmental Planning
