You’ll manage a team that ensures enforcement work is targeted and tackles the most serious environmental offences. Through the effective oversight of investigations, you’ll ensure enforcement actions are prompt and effective, ‘done right, first time’.
Enforcement Team Leaders ensure that their officers have the capability and resource to undertake their activities effectively working closely with the Senior Enforcement Officer and Senior Environmental Crime Officer to develop staff capabilities, confidence and professionalism. This includes ensuring staff have the right training and support to carry out effective investigations.
As Team leader you’ll ensure expert opinion and advice on enforcement procedures, evidence gathering and actions is provided by the team to Regulatory and non-regulatory officers across the Area.
You’ll also be responsible for driving the team to develop, implement and direct proactive operations to deter illegal activities and ensure National and external teams are sighted on information and advice on enforcement activity feeding into the National Intelligence network.
Finally, you’ll ensure your teams activities are risk assessed and that health, safety and wellbeing measures are followed to minimise the risk of harm to Environment Agency staff and members of the public.
The team investigate complex, significant environmental offences. With specialist skills to prevent, disrupt and tackle environmental crime, they target waste offences and advise on land and water, flood risk management, fisheries, and navigation offences.
Often working with our National Enforcement Service they deliver Major Investigations and develop investigation plans based on intelligence. Working in partnership with other organisations, they liaise with the National Intelligence Team and Government Agency Intelligence Network to promote effective information sharing.
You’ll be able to show where you’ve led a team and delivered outcomes through others. You’ll be people focused, and be able to demonstrate how you have developed others.
First-class communication skills are a must, and you also understand the importance of teamwork and collaboration both within the Environment Agency, and with our partners and customers. You’ll be experienced in dealing with hostile situations, and have an ability to diffuse tension and prevent escalation.
It’s important that you’re skilled at managing multiple priorities and competing demands. You’ll be an intelligent problem solver too, with a methodical work approach and an ability to follow governance and procedure, recognising its importance within a criminal investigation.
You should also have a full driving licence and a willingness to travel around Yorkshire, and occasionally to other locations across the UK. Experience in enforcement or regulation and criminal proceedings are advantageous but not essential.
