We're looking for a highly motivated and dynamic person to join the Environment Agency’s North East Sustainable Places Team. Your work will help make the North East of England a better place. You'll achieve this by influencing developers during pre-application discussions, Local Authorities through their strategic local plans and through our role as a statutory consultee on planning applications. You will manage your own caseload with support from colleagues. Your work will help protect future generations from flooding, clean up land contamination, protect and improve water quality and enhance biodiversity.

The way we work is changing, so this is an exciting time to join the team. We're aiming to influence the planning system earlier and more strategically and to recover our costs when doing so.
The team is knowledgeable and supportive. We deliver the EA's role as a consultee in the Town Planning and Marine Licensing systems. This is a fast moving environment. We work with a range of external customers on development management and policy. To do this the team works closely with other internal technical teams across the Environment Agency.
Experience of working in partnership with others and of the English Town and Country Planning System is essential. A relevant planning qualification and membership of, or working towards membership of, the RTPI is desirable. We also welcome interest from individuals who have experience of partnership working and an awareness of the planning system in a wider environmental role, and who are keen to apply transferable knowledge and learn new skills. The most important thing is your energy and willingness to learn, a real desire to achieve the best environmental outcomes and a flexible, creative approach to move with our changing ways of working.
Closing Date: 2nd January 2018 at 23:55 hours
