We are looking for people with an understanding of agriculture and/or regulation to join a frontline team working directly to help create a cleaner, safer and healthier environment in Cheshire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside.

In this role, you will visit dairy farms, investigating their operation and management to ensure they are meeting the standards set by environmental regulations and so reducing the risk of pollution.

You will engage with farmers, advising them how to comply with relevant environmental legislation and signposting them to available funding for improvements. This will sometimes involve difficult or challenging conversations. Where necessary you will take action to compel farmers to make improvements.

The posts are a fixed term contact until the end of March 2023 with the potential to become permanent.
You will part of a team based in Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire who deal with water quality, water resources and agriculture issues in their area. You will specifically focus on dairy farming.
You will also be part of a network of Agriculture Regulatory Officers across England, sharing your experience and knowledge to develop best practice.
You will have the support of local and national Agriculture specialist technical advisors.
We are looking for candidates who
● Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the confidence to have difficult conversations.
● Are able to effectively plan and manage their own workload
● Are passionate about delivering environmental improvement
● Can manage complex technical information
● Have basic IT skills, including Word and Excel
Candidates who can demonstrate they understand the complexities and challenges of working farms, and legislation relating to Agriculture, will be at an advantage. For example, you may have been educated in agriculture and/or have experience of working on farms or with farmers.
We also welcome applications from candidates with experience of regulation in other sectors.
We will provide full training, ongoing technical development and mentoring.
You must be able to drive and hold a full driving licence. We will provide a vehicle for your use at work. This may be a lease, pool or hire vehicle.
As an organisation we strive to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds regardless of race, sexual orientation, and religion. We also welcome applications for part-time hours to support flexible working. However, the initial training programme for this role is expected to require full-time working for a period of around two months.
