Acting to reduce the impacts of a changing climate on people and wildlife is at the heart of everything we do. We ensure people can enjoy the water environment through angling and navigation. We look after land quality, promote sustainable land management and help protect and enhance wildlife habitats, by working closely with businesses to help them comply with environmental regulations.
These roles are extremely varied and draw upon a range of transferable and specialist skills. Working with other teams and organisations, you can expect to be involved in any of the following:
• Digitalising our abstraction licenses, permitting of Water Resources activities and delivering Abstraction Reform,
• Providing hydrological advice and analysis and projections,
• Coordinating technical assessments, communicating with customers, other environmental bodies and occasional site visits,
• Issuing permits in line with legislation and guidance, ensuring the environment is protected,
• Tackling abstraction from rivers, waterways and farms across a range of urban and rural sites,
• Collection, analysis and interpretation of data
• Providing regular hydrological updates for the National Incident Room and Defra.

A working knowledge of water resources and abstraction licensing would be preferred in addition to the following key skills:
• Strong organisational skills, able to prioritise tasks effectively,
• Adaptive communication style to suit others,
