The Technical Officer performs a crucial role within the Environment Agency’s busy intelligence department.

As a Technical Officer in the team

You will:

Work with the environmental permitting team to tackle environmental crime committed through the waste industry.

Provide support and coaching to team members ensuring that the team make decisions based on sound technical grounds in line with best practice and to the required standards and timeframes.

Monitor progress of the team’s work, identify risks, priorities and implement timely resolutions to the issues.

Work with your Team Leader to provide professional/technical expertise to deliver the operational priorities of the team and customer needs,

Act as a key point of contact between the intelligence department and other internal services
Visit, develop and maintain excellent relationships with local officers.

Review incoming intelligence from a variety of sources.

Look for links to ongoing investigations, additional lines of enquiry and new and emerging threats.

Proactively monitoring open source websites and other internal systems.

Advise staff on how intelligence can help to prevent, disrupt and enforce against environmental crime.

Produce intelligence products that will highlight Intelligence gaps and give recommendations for further action.

Will be quality assuring the intelligence packages for the team
The Intelligence Team manage and develop all criminal intelligence for the Environment Agency. Made up of several roles and disciplines, we build and maintain strong relationships with our partners to work as one enforcement community and drive our intelligence led approach to tackling environmental crime. The team provide a professional and timely service and are focussed on continuously improving how we do things to make sure our outcomes meet our customers’ needs.
As our Technical Officer you’ll draw upon a number of key skills and personal characteristics. You’ll need to:

• Build and maintain strong relationships with a diverse range of people
• Be innovative & take the initiative
• Be able to work under pressure, organising and prioritising your workload to meet deadlines
• Have great IT skills and the confidence to learn new systems

• Have a proven ability to work collaboratively with other teams and external stakeholders
• Be passionate about what you do
• Handle information securely
There will be some travel to other offices and overnight stays may occasionally be required but you will be given plenty of notice beforehand.
