We have an exciting opportunity for two individuals who wish to focus on a career in operational water resources planning and wider river basin management planning in Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and Sussex in the Environment Agency Solent and South Downs (SSD) Area.

These positions will be responsible for delivering several key area work programmes working with national and area colleagues to deliver significant programmes of work such as water company water resource management plans, drought plans, sustainable abstraction and abstraction licence reform. You will contribute to the leadership, coordination and development of these work programmes, ensuring that SSD is water resource resilient. You will work with colleagues in your own and other teams to develop water resources resilience across SSD Area and provide a single point of contact for liaison with our three Water Companies and other abstractors.
You'll be part of a professional team committed to using data and evidence to plan and prioritise the delivery of water resource-related environmental outcomes across SSD area. We work across a number of teams, bringing people together to ensure we are focusing on the right activities to drive major investment from others. You'll also be able to participate in a wider national community of professionals working in water resources management.
With a relevant degree you will have proven experience of working with a wide range of people. You will be able to show how you use your strong communication skills including the ability to translate technical issues into non-technical language, to influence and persuade others to achieve common objectives.
You will have proven communication, influencing and networking skills. You'll be able to demonstrate how you take decisions and solve problems, working within a programme and project management framework. You will have experience of using evidence and analysis to explore problems and propose effective and innovative solutions. It would be advantageous to have an understanding of the concept and context of Drought Plan Management and Water Resource planning.
In this role you will have the ability to demonstrate your awareness of the environmental legislation and policies applicable to water resources management and your ability to plan, track, deliver and evaluate work.

You’ll be working on issues anywhere within the SSD area. We have offices in Romsey, Chichester, Isle of Wight, Worthing and Pevensey. The role will be predominantly office-based, but you will work closely with Area and National colleagues in SSD and other Area teams in other offices the course of your role. You will be supported to work towards accredited status of a relevant professional body. A clean driving licence is preferred for this role as you may be required to travel on works business on occasion. You will be encouraged to fulfil an incident response role whilst in this post.
