We are looking for someone to provide dynamic and confident leadership to a highly skilled team that manage and maintain flood risk management structures in accordance with our asset management strategy and ISO55000.

This role involves ensuring that your team has the correct resources, skills and operational capabilities to fulfil their day to day role of delivering a maintenance and inspection programme, and to provide effective and professional incident response to flood events. You will oversee a programme of maintenance works and ensure successful delivery of important engineering projects. You'll also be working with external partners, suppliers and landowners as well as with internal teams to plan the future maintenance needs of the catchment. Your strong leadership will maintain the high standard of corporate and professional behaviours expected of the team and ensure successful delivery of important works, which protect people and property.

You will have proven leadership skills with experience of managing teams and a good track record of delivering projects and programmes through others. You'll be able to motivate, inspire and will have excellent communication and networking skills with an enthusiasm for innovation and continual improvement.
Responsible for making sure that our flood risk management assets are constructed, inspected, maintained and operated in a safe, effective and efficient manner to reduce flood risk to people and property within South Essex. Developing the maintenance program, managing projects and identifying and bidding for the future funding needs for these assets.

During a flood event the team oversees the operation of these assets to deliver the Environment Agency's operational response in collaboration with partners.
You will have:

• Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation, risk management procedures and practices.
• Coaching and mentoring skills to get the best out of people and have an active role in their development.
• Ability to translate organisational outcomes into plans and programmes for frontline delivery.
• Strong budget management capabilities
• Effective planning skills with the ability to prioritise and deliver results to tight deadlines
• You must be able to take initiative, be flexible, solve problems and make decisions
• Good IT skills with experience of managing and interpreting data
• Educated to degree level or equivalent, or able to demonstrate technical knowledge in a relevant subject. Experience / knowledge of asset management and / or engineering within a flood risk / water management environment would be advantageous but not essential.

A full UK driving licence is essential.
