We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated Technical Specialist (Hydrology) who can apply their knowledge and skills to undertake:
• Quality assessment of river flow data and gauging station network review
• Flow modelling/analysis
• Abstraction licence strategies resources assessment
• Restoring sustainable abstraction investigations and options appraisal
• Water Framework Directive hydrology assessments
• Appraisal of water company management plans
• Drought incident management
• Hydrological assessment in abstraction management
• Mentoring and development of the team
• Work with National and other Area hydrologists in the Environment Agency
• Work with customers and partners such as water companies, consultants, catchment groups, developers, Rivers Trusts, Natural England and the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology.
The post is in the Cumbria & Lancashire Groundwater, Hydrology and Contaminated Land team. The team's hydrologists are based in the Warrington office. They provide technical expertise and advice to other Environment Agency teams on a range of drought incident and water resource management projects and determination of water resources permits. They also works closely with external customers and partners.
• Academic qualifications of minimum degree level (or equivalent), ideally MSc or equivalent in a relevant environmental discipline (Geography, Environmental Sciences or Civil Engineering)
• Minimum five years hydrological experience
• Produces and effectively interprets data to develop evidence
• Advises others on the resolution of technical issues
• Communicates across a wide network of audiences, having the ability to turn technical detail into compelling argument for the respective audience
• In depth understanding of water resources business
