This is an exciting opportunity to drive our Area’s work on river bathing waters – with particular focus on our first designated site in Oxford. As Catchment Investigation Officer, you would be responsible for building our understanding of the upstream influences on the water quality at this site and help inform measures for improvement.

This is a project role, focused on the new designation. You will be responsible for the production of a collaborative project report, identifying good practise for river bathing waters to help with any future designations.

Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the sampling regime – including investigative sampling
- Development of the Bathing Water profile
- Engagement with the local authority, local groups and community
- Investigative work on source apportionment and modelling
- Responsibility for performing investigative sampling, as part of regular site investigative work
- Development and maintenance of a risk register
- Working with our 'communications and engagement' team on 'frequently asked questions' and leading our response to customer enquiries
This role will work closely across multiple teams in the Area, including Analysis & Reporting, Land & Water, Integrated Environment Planning and Waterways.

As part of this cross functional team, you will liaise with technical experts who collectively have a part to play in how we monitor our rivers, analyse and report data, and work with operational teams, national colleagues and water companies to produce evidence that informs and drives environmental improvements.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about the environment and water quality, with a keen interest in river bathing waters.

Skills and experience include:
- Water quality technical knowledge
- Data analysis, interpretation and presentation
- Experience of monitoring and investigative analysis
- Project management experience
- Communication / engagement skills
This is a fixed term position. Please note, internal staff must seek line manager agreement before making an application for this role.

The team is based in the Environment Agency's Thames Area; there will be a requirement for some travel and on-site work as part of the investigation.
