As Project Executive, you will take the lead to deliver the Environment Agency’s new National Flood Risk Assessment (NaFRA2) for England in 2024. This project is a key part of our vision for flood risk information that inspires action, and a key commitment in our Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) strategy. We will use NaFRA2 to communicate flood risk to the public and it will underpin many of our risk management decisions and those of our partners.

Your initial focus will be on overseeing the delivery of the agreed products and systems. You will work closely with project stakeholders to optimise the outputs within the available time and budget. You will also work with the wider team to oversee business change, and you will lead on defining future programmes of continuous improvement for our National Flood Risk Assessment.

You will be delivering a crucial enabler to drive our vision of a nation resilient to flooding and coastal change.
You will line manage a team comprising technical, benefits and engagement experts, and oversee the wider project team and project supplier.

This role sits within the national Risk Assessment team. The team’s mission is to deliver our FCERM Mapping and Modelling Plan, through which we are transforming the technology, skills and information we rely on to assess flood risk, and improving the way we convey all of this information to our partners and the public.
You must be able to demonstrate that you can deliver complex projects, preferably in a flood risk context and including elements of technology, and preferably in a Project Executive role.

You must be able to provide inspirational leadership to your team and support the wellbeing and development of all team members.

You must be good at getting to grips with complex problems and options, and explaining them to a non-technical audience.

You must be able to manage senior stakeholders with varying and sometimes conflicting needs.

You must be good at making hard decisions and solving problems within a project environment where there are time and money constraints.

You must be able to talk confidently about the core concepts involved in managing flood risk. More specialist knowledge of flood mapping, modelling and data is helpful but not essential.
For an informal discussion about this role, please contact Jonathan Day, Deputy Director for Risk Assessment, on 07768 278516.

Your base location can be any Environment Agency office. You will work with colleagues and partners across the country, so some travel will be required but we make use of technology to keep in touch. The Environment Agency supports flexible work arrangements provided business requirements are met.

The appointment process will be undertaken remotely.

You’ll be encouraged to undertake a role supporting incident management which could involve paid work outside of office hours. Full training will be provided.
