As an Evaluation intern at the Environment Agency (EA), you will work as part of our national Evaluation Team to support the delivery of high profile projects through analysis, desk based research, and report writing.
Activities could include using a range of desk based secondary research methods including literature search and interpretation, data analysis and statistics, and summarising qualitative and quantitative information from surveys, consultations, and internal reports.
This is an opportunity to put your secondary research skills into practice and help develop innovative research approaches in an applied setting. We’re looking for a candidate with an interest in applying research and analysis to improve the environment, how we regulate industry, and our own organisational performance.

This internship is available to current BSc and Msc students, and recent BSc/MSc graduates who have graduated within the last year.
The EA’s Evidence Assessment and Evaluation group specialises in compiling data and information from a range of sources to investigate issues like the state of the environment, the environmental impact of industry, and how our regulatory activities achieve positive environmental outcomes. We are currently investigating the varied ‘measures’ used to support implementation of the Water Framework Directive, the effectiveness of our enforcement in driving down waste crime, and aspects of how we regulate major industry.
You will be studying towards or have recently completed an undergraduate or master’s degree in natural, environmental, or social science (or a similar subject with significant relevant content).
Additionally, you’ll be:
• Confident working with quantitative and qualitative data and information and be able to draw reliable conclusions.
• Able to demonstrate a variety of communication methods used to convey ideas and present complex information in an understandable way.
• Naturally inquisitive, and a logical and analytical thinker.
• You’ll be comfortable working independently as well as part of a team.
• Competent MS Office user.
Closing Date: 28th June 2017 at 23:55 hours
