The Anglian Coastal Monitoring Programme (ACMP) are seeking a Coastal Process Scientist to join our small team.
You will play a key part in the delivery of our project objectives. Reporting to the ACMP Team Leader and working closely with the data lead, you will fulfil a multi-purpose role which will suit someone with a keen interest in flood and coastal erosion risk management.
You will:
- Check and analyse survey data and report on the findings to provide accurate information to our partners, upon which subsequent coastal management decisions are made.
- Use specialist software (Matlab/SANDS/GIS) to analyse Lidar, topographic and hydrodynamic data.
- Assist in the creation of analysis workflows, methodologies and procedures for data analysis, quality assurance or reporting.
- Work with the ACMP team and partners to develop the monitoring programme to better meet changing requirements.
- Provide advice and guidance based on our data and wider coastal process knowledge to internal and external partners.
- Represent the ACMP by attending and contributing to coastal advisory groups, working groups or other partnerships as required.
- Build and maintain working relationships with the programme’s partners including; Local Authorities, Environment Agency, Natural England and other relevant bodies.
The ACMP team sits within the National Monitoring Survey team who work with National & Area teams to co-deliver all the monitoring requirements of the Environment Agency and the wider environmental community. The ACMP team collect coastal monitoring data to serve the needs of our partners and customers who have coastal management responsibilities, providing the evidence for flood and coastal erosion risk management (FCERM) decisions between the Humber and Thames Estuaries.
Essential:
- Educated to degree level in Geography, Environmental Science, GIS/Remote Sensing or similar or have equivalent experience.
- Good analytical skills and experience of interpreting coastal data e.g. topographic, Lidar, hydrodynamic and bathymetric data.
- Sound understanding of coastal processes and the drivers and factors influencing coastal change.
- Ability to communicate scientific information to a range of technical and non-technical audiences via excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good data management skills with an appetite to embed new technology into our working practices.
- Ability to work autonomously and problem solve, escalating where necessary.

Desirable:
- Experience of using specialist software such as ArcGIS, R, Matlab or equivalent.
- Knowledge of Environment Agency, FCERM & local authority strategic coastal management planning and policies.
- Familiarity with the ACMP coastline (Grimsby, Lincolnshire to Southend, Essex.)

The National Monitoring Survey team is a national team, located at various sites around the country with the main office based in Bath. It is anticipated that you will be working in a hybrid manner, combining working remotely at home with some office based work but this will be discussed in more detail at interview.
