‘Think Big, Act Early and Be Visible’. Your role will be to support the Hertfordshire and North London Area to do just that, ensuring our staff are ready and prepared to provide a 1st class response to environmental incidents whatever the cause, wherever and whenever they occur. Working across teams and with a range of internal partners you will be responsible for ensuring requirements of our national Major Incident Ready programme are fully implemented and embedded as business as usual into the Area ways of working. You will:

• be the main point of contact between the national Major Incident Ready project team and the Area to ensure the national implementation plan is successfully delivered.
• embed our new Concept of Operations response model, ensuring consistent implementation including changes to business practices, processes and procedures.
• plan, coordinate and report on the area’s implementation of the incident role harmonisation programme, providing guidance and support to staff to resolve issues with local implementation.
• support the development and delivery of local projects, including delivering training and exercises to test our incident preparedness, ensuring lessons learned are captured and acted on.
Under the direction of the Area Flood and Coastal Risk Manager, you will be line managed within the Flood Resilience team who are responsible for ensuring our staff, the public and our professional partners are prepared to respond to flooding. Your role will be to operate across all teams and incident types, working closely with colleagues who share responsibilities for incident management within the Area as well as with the national Major Incident Ready team.
You will:

• Have experience of incident management and an awareness of the Environment Agency’s role in managing and responding to incidents.
• be a self-starter, well organised, but flexible, able to manage conflicting demands and a diverse workload.
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with a range of audiences, including the delivery of training.
• Have strong influencing skills to encourage collaborative working and successfully obtain other’s commitment to undertake work by gaining their acceptance and involvement
• Show leadership with a positive approach to change, improving what is delivered by welcoming challenge and thorough continuous process improvement.

Occasional travel to external meetings and other Environment Agency locations may be required. A full UK driving licence is not essential, but would be beneficial.

You will be expected to play a full part in our incident response in line with your skills and experience. This may mean taking up a role on one of our duty rosters.

It is anticipated that interviews will take place in January 2018.
