‘Prepare. Act. Survive.’ When floods happen they can have devastating impacts on the communities they effect and the Environment Agency needs to be ready and prepared to ‘Think Big, Act Early and Be Visible’ in our response. As the Flood Incident Management Technical Advisor in the Hertfordshire and North London Flood Resilience Team, you will work with the team and a range of internal and external partners to oversee the delivery our flood incident management service. You will:

- Support planning and preparation for flood incident response, ensuring systems and procedures are maintained and that our staff are trained and exercised.
- Participate in and lead area networks and groups to deliver a 1st class incident response.
- Build relationships with external partners to ensure an effective multi-agency response to flooding.
- Work with the Team Leader and other technical advisors to prioritise and manage the team’s workload and set the strategic direction of the team.
- Provide leadership and technical expertise; acting as a coach and mentor to deliver through and develop skills in others.
- Support our incident management response in line with your skills and experience.
Our Flood Resilience Team ensures we are resilient and ready for incidents by:

- Maintaining our flood warning systems.
- Working with communities at risk from flooding, providing advice on what to do before, during and after flooding.
- Maintaining our incident room and supporting the training and exercising of our staff.
- Working with our professional partners to ensure we all pull together for the best response.
You will:

- Have experience of incident management and an awareness of our role in managing and responding to flood incidents.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills and engage effectively with a range of internal audiences and external partners.
- Be a facilitator, with the ability to influence others and encourage collaborative working to achieve a positive outcome.
- Be self-motivated, able to manage a diverse workload and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Show leadership and have a positive approach to change.

Occasional travel to external meetings and other Environment Agency locations may be required. A full UK driving licence is not essential, but would be beneficial.

You will be expected to play a full part in our incident response in line with your skills and experience. This may mean taking up a role on one of our duty rosters.

It is anticipated that interviews will take place in January 2018.
