You will be a motivated, enthusiastic and driven individual in this exciting and challenging role. You will support the efficient delivery of maintenance activities, developing safe systems of work and briefing the team on tasks such as repairing flood defences, mowing embankments and removing in channel blockages. You will do this through planning, organising and allocating resources to ensure work is delivered to a high standard and in line with H&S legislation.

This work is essential for the effective management of our flood defence assets and reducing the flood risk to people, properties and the environment. You’ll help lead our operational response to flooding and environmental incidents by participating, and training, in an incident role. You will be comfortable making decisions and resolving problems, and deputise as Team Leader when required. You’ll provide leadership on H&S matters and actively promote safe working practices, whilst ensuring that site work fully complies with our policies.
The Area Operations Field Teams are motivated, vibrant and successful, offering a great place to work. Our teams protect people and the environment by maintaining and operating flood defence assets and respond to incidents. Field teams have a range of technical skills used in the maintenance of watercourses, asset maintenance and small construction projects.

We are leaders in asset management and have achieved ISO55001 accreditation for maintenance of our flood defence assets.
You’ll be confident, organised and able to demonstrate a great track record of delivering projects / programmes of work. Most important will be your energy, enthusiasm and willingness to learn combined with strong interpersonal skills to build relationships.

Knowledge and/or demonstrable experience of the following are essential:

A full driving licence approved for the UK.

Leadership skills

Self-motivated, with the ability to work well in a team and independently

A good understanding of site-based health and safety requirements and be able to maintain/develop a strong HSW culture on site.

Familiar and competent in the use of Microsoft Office with willingness to learn our in-house systems.

Ability to manage a programme of works.

Positive and adaptable

Skills to communicate effectively with colleagues, landowners and the public

Desirable:

HNC/HND with Contract and/or Construction Management Modules, or EA NVQ Level 4, or other relevant technical qualification equivalent.
