Field Operations protect people and the environment by maintaining and operating our flood and coastal risk management assets and responding to incidents.

This hands-on role involves:
Leading and working together with a team and being outside in all weathers;
Coaching and mentoring Team Members and colleagues to increase skills, knowledge and experience;
Your team will use a variety of tools and equipment to carry out tasks such as cutting grass on flood banks and clearing debris from trash screens;
Providing response to flood and environmental incidents inside and outside of normal working hours by participating, training and exercising. Deploying sandbags, temporary barriers, mobile pumps and pollution equipment;
Carrying out regular checks and inspections of equipment, such as tools, personal protective equipment and vehicles.
Our field teams protect people and the environment by maintaining and operating our flood and coastal risk management assets and responding to incidents.
Field teams have a range of technical skills they use to deliver watercourse maintenance, along with asset maintenance and construction projects. The team handle a variety of specialist equipment including plant and boats.
They support the prevention or mitigation of incidents day and night
• You should have the necessary practical skills and an understanding in environmental awareness as well as a hands on approach;
• Some experience in asset operation or maintenance/incident response/use of equipment/tools is an advantage (however full training will be provided);
• You will be trained and supported to contribute to our response to incidents inside and outside of normal working hours;
• You should have an understanding of site health and safety requirements;
• Literacy and numeracy skills are required;
• Have the ability to carry out tasks and answer queries effectively;
• Competent in using IT devices, such as an iPad, and willing to learn our in-house systems;
• Undertake specialist training as and when required;
• People management or leadership skills are desirable.

As part of our incident management responsibility, you will be expected to attend outdoor locations and assess whether actions are required to reduce flood or environmental risks.

Please give an example when you’ve had to solve a problem within a short space of time or with limited information.
