At the Environment Agency there’s so much more to our work than building flood risk management schemes or regulating industry. We strive to ensure everything we do counts towards leaving a legacy to be proud of – for people, communities and the environment – for all of us and future generations to enjoy.

Our Project Manager role will see you join our high performing teams working in collaboration on vital projects across the region, often focused on our flood risk asset management programme. You’ll take responsibility for the management of projects, supporting senior colleagues as you gain experience on our major programmes of work.

Whatever the challenge, you’ll be involved throughout and take on wide-ranging responsibilities: adding value at the initial strategic planning phase all the way into implementation, construction and delivery. Effective communication and the ability to build great working relationships are crucial, as you’ll be managing resources, and coordinating an integrated project team, including our supply partners - encouraging the best performance and behaviours within our collaborative teams as you set a path to achieving great outcomes. This role will also involve contract management, report writing, cost monitoring and forecasting, feasibility assessment, outline design, environmental and construction management.
We are Programme and Contracts Management (PCM), creating a better place through excellence in project and programme management. You will become part of an award-winning team that provides areas, alongside national services and centres, with an effective project and programme management service. Our strong, well-qualified teams manage projects throughout their lifecycle to deliver environmental improvements, adding value and resulting in a greater sense of shared ownership with local communities.
The role calls for a relevant degree such as in civil engineering, environmental science or geography and an impressive history in both contract and project management. Ideally, but not exclusively, you will have experience working on civil engineering projects and be an expert negotiator and champion of good practice. You’ll bring an infectious enthusiasm that also inspires your project team to achieve the best of themselves and the project goals.

Having at least four years project management experience, as a minimum, you should have a project management qualification such as in PRINCE2 or APM. If not already a member of a professional body such as ICE, CIWEM or APM, we will support you in achieving this. In addition, the more experience you have of financial and commercial controls, NEC contract suites, CDM regulations and risk management, the better.
For further information on the role contact Simon Allam on 07769575193 or simon.allam@environment-agency.gov.uk.

Please see the candidate pack for details of our benefits, such as pension provision, leave entitlement, training/learning opportunities and flexible working practices.

Salary from £34,879 (potentially more for exceptional candidates, based on skills and experience).

Driving licence ideally required. Lease car available where there is a clear business need. Regional and national travel and occasional overnight stays required.

Interviews are anticipated to take place w/c 15 October 2019.

When providing evidence for competencies, give examples of how you demonstrate these either within the context of this role or as transferable skills. CVs / documents attached to your application will not be assessed for selection.
