As an I-STORM Communications & Administration Officer you will be integral in supporting the co-ordination and day-to-day management of the Network.

You’ll work closely with international colleagues, as you support the delivery of the Network’s key objectives and events.

The role will involve providing oversight and administration of Network finances and management of the Network budget. It will also include drafting and issuing communications to members, updating Network information and core information products such as leaflets, newsletters, internet blogs and webpages.
You’ll provide advice to potential members regarding joining the Network as well as providing support to existing members. There will be opportunities to travel internationally to meet with other Network members, facilitate and attend Network events and workshops and generally, develop knowledge sharing across the network and its member organisations.

The role will be a combination of office-based working and virtual working with much of the Network’s activities and events organised via web conferencing and teleconferencing. This provides the option of flexibility for the role to be split between office and home over three days a week.
The I-STORM Network includes core members of storm surge barrier / flood risk management professionals from the Environment Agency (England), Rijkswaterstaat (the Netherlands) and Army Corps of Engineers (United States) as well as a number of barrier member organisations (e.g. PUB Singapore).

The purpose of the Network is to share knowledge and experience to improve management, maintenance and operation of SSBs and to better protect people, places and property from flooding.
You’re passionate about the environment and keen to achieve sustainable outcomes in flood risk management and build an internationally recognised network underpinned by knowledge sharing. Capable and confident, you are able to use your initiative when it comes to making decisions. You will have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, along with a talent for building excellent working relationships with external and international partners.

You’ll have a relevant degree, or equivalent experience, perhaps in environmental science, communications or similar, while good financial management skills and data management skills, including Microsoft Office, are essential.

You’ll be required to go through a counter terrorism security clearance (CTC) to work from the Thames Barrier or the Environment Agency’s London office location, so it’s vital that you have the right to work in the UK full time.
