We have an opportunity for an individual who is keen to start a career in operational water resource management within Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and Sussex, which make up the Environment Agency Solent and South Downs (SSD) Area.

This is an Area with high reliance on water-dependent designated sites. You will support colleagues in managing our water quantity and quality sampling networks that provide us with environmental evidence and in responding to enquiries from internal and external organisations. You will have the opportunity to develop your water resource management knowledge working alongside colleagues who undertake sampling, monitoring and compliance activity for water resources management.
You'll join a team of professionals committed to ensuring effective protection of our riverine and groundwater resources in the Environment Agency Solent and South Downs (SSD) Area. You'll be part of a committed and professional team that delivers specialist technical advice and guidance on hydrological, hydrogeological, land contamination and geotechnical matters. You'll also be able to participate in a wider national community of professionals working in water resources management.
Together with a relevant degree you will have proven expertise in data management and interpretation skills which enables you to review data and share what this means with others. You will ideally have working knowledge of GIS-based mapping tools. You will have good organisational skills/discipline and the ability to plan, track, deliver and evaluate work. You will have a keen interest in learning from others how local riverine hydrology and catchment conditions function.

You will be able to relate your knowledge in the context of understanding abstraction licensing for public water supply and other uses. You will show how you have/will applied your awareness of environmental legislation and policies applicable to water resources management to protect the environment. You will have good communication and influencing skills – with a proven record of producing clear and persuasive written material and presenting to/briefing more senior staff, colleagues and customers.
Closing Date: 6th March 2017 at 23:55 hours

The role will be predominantly office-based, but you will work closely with colleagues in this and other Area teams which will require some fieldwork and travel. Colleagues with whom you will work closely are based in Romsey and Worthing. A driving licence is essential.
