As part of our Flood and Coastal Risk Management Teams you will be passionate about protecting people, communities and businesses from the risks of flooding and coastal erosion. Working specifically in the Flood Resilience teams, you’ll support project management, keep our information up to date and easily accessible, and pull together our responses to both client and customer queries. You’ll build strong relationships with internal teams, managers and professional partners as well as local communities. Beyond that, you’ll analyse information, provide first-level assessments of flood warning, forecasting and incident response work and, as a result, have a big impact on high-profile projects. You'll also be required at times to attend evening meetings and participate in out-of-hours incident response.
Flood Resilience teams work to reduce flood risk and better prepare people and communities to deal with flooding when it occurs. They provide expert support and technical guidance on flood warning, forecasting and incident response work and work with communities to help them better understand and manage the risks of flooding. We lead multi-agency flood planning and have a key role in ensuring the resilience and effectiveness of our delivery of incident management responsibilities.
Ideally, you’ll be educated to degree-level however, this is not essential; experience and knowledge of flood risk is equally valued and we’re just as interested in your communication skills and talent for coordinating everything from external responses to system assessments. But we’ll expect more than an organised, efficient and logical approach to data management and workload prioritisation. You’ll also bring us the interpersonal abilities needed to build relationships with a wide range of internal stakeholders in addition to the communities we serve.
