We are the Environment Agency. We work with government, local councils, water companies, businesses, and communities to make our environment cleaner, safer, and healthier for people and wildlife.

We have an exciting new opportunity to help us develop the way we work with Citizen Science organisations to achieve better environmental outcomes in Kent & South London. We want to make the best use of the widest range of monitoring data available and value the important contribution that citizen science can offer.

You will be enthusiastic & highly motivated, with freshwater ecological experience. In this role you will:
• Lead and engage with our citizen science partnership groups
• Provide technical help on monitoring programmes for ecology and water quality, whilst ensuring all data collected is of the highest quality with consistent standards.
• Help with citizen science innovations and development of integrated platforms for data storage and sharing across partner organisations.
• Work closely with existing catchment partnerships and teams within our local area.
• Work with the national working group, sharing learning and best practice from national pilot catchments
• Feedback from the successes and challenges you experience to help us develop an effective and consistent approach to this important work

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
Our friendly and dedicated Analysis & Reporting team collect, analyse and interpret freshwater environmental data to inform a range of legislative, national & local requirements.

We are skilled in monitoring fieldwork and lab work and use our expertise to assess a wide variety of ecology, water quality & fisheries data from a range of sources. Our customers rely on the evidence we provide to help the delivery of local and national environmental improvements.
You will have experience of freshwater ecological field work, lab work, analysis, interpretation of ecological data sets.

You will be qualified to a higher education level (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.

You will also:
• use your expertise to communicate, influence colleague, partnership working to maximise outcomes for the environment.
• be experienced in planning & leading freshwater monitoring programmes, with ability to identify freshwater macro-invertebrates
• have an appreciation of the use and application of innovative ways of monitoring the freshwater environment including an understanding of citizen science
• have great communication skills, experience of working effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, partners
• have used data and evidence to influence and effect change for positive environmental outcomes
• have well-proven use of appropriate data tools for statistical analysis, interpretation & presentation of freshwater ecological data
• possess a full driving licence and be able to swim
