We are the Environment Agency. We work with government/councils/businesses/and communities to make our environment cleaner/safer/healthier for people and wildlife. We tackle the effects and causes of climate change, perhaps the most serious long-term threat to the environment that we face.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology Team in Kent, South London and East Sussex as a fluvial geomorphologist. Working closely with our Geomorphology Technical Specialist you will help to protect, restore and enhance the natural environment. We are looking for someone with a proactive/positive approach, along with a desire to work collaboratively.

As a Geomorphologist Technical Officer you will:
• Provide advice/guidance/training/technical tools supporting colleagues deliver improvements to the ecological status of our rivers in line with the Water Environment Regulations (formerly Water Framework Directive).
• Ensure that we prevent/minimise ecological impacts arising from our own activities/those of third parties that we regulate.
• Proactively engage across the business to help identify/design/delivering a program of mitigation/restoration activities in surface waters.
• Work collaboratively to find innovative solutions delivering environmental outcomes/reducing long term in-river maintenance whilst improving/keeping flood risk constant.
• Improve understanding of geomorphological issues, and work to ensure that they are resolved.
You will be part of our passionate/dedicated/enthusiastic Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology Team covering Kent, South London & East Sussex. We are a dispersed team and work from locations across our area.

A major focus of the team is inputting into Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management capital schemes, maintenance of assets, water company environmental programmes, and partnership working to deliver priority habitat creation, Water Environment Regulations mitigation measures, river restoration projects and planning advice.
You will need:
• Sound technical knowledge of geomorphology and a good understanding of the Water Environment Regulations. Ideally, you will be educated to degree level or have equivalent practical work experience.
• An outgoing nature: keen to work with a range of internal and external partners and able to bring people together and overcome difficulties with practical and pragmatic solutions.
• Enthusiasm: you will be passionate about biodiversity and able to communicate and influence effectively.
• A drive to learn and develop: You will have evidence of on-going learning and development/CPD on relevant policy and practice

You may also have some of the following: knowledge and awareness of river restoration techniques.
