As part of the Environment Agency’s National Monitoring Services team, you will lead delivery of the Anglian Coastal Monitoring programme, part of the National Network of Regional Coastal Monitoring Programmes. You will support coastal managers in the Flood & Coastal Risk Management directorate and Maritime Local Authorities operating on the Anglian coast by providing leadership and scientific analysis of coastal geomorphological processes.

A high level of analytical skills and understanding of coastal processes, monitoring, survey design and project delivery will be required. An as effective leader and communicator you will work in partnership with Local Authorities and other coastal stakeholders. You will have project management experience, capable of long term survey planning, writing technical specifications, managing contractors and tenders, planning surveys, assessing data and providing coastal monitoring and geomorphological advice
National Monitoring Services delivers all national once monitoring activities for chemistry, biology, survey and telemetry. Working with Area monitoring teams we co-deliver all the monitoring requirements of the Environment Agency.

The team provide a range of specialist services, delivered by our professional people, to enable effective evidence to be used across the Environment Agency. This includes delivering vital monitoring information to support decisions on river basin management, incident management and assessing flood risk to communities.
You will have a degree in a relevant Coastal Engineering, Oceanography, Coastal Management or Marine Geography scientific discipline, with key Analytical skills and coastal processes knowledge.

Experience of coastal management techniques and the statutory and EA Shoreline Management Plan drivers. Working with external coastal partners, effective communication skills are essential in presenting technical datasets, coastal risk and change. Familiarity with the coast from the River Humber to the Thames is preferable.

Confident handling large spatial datasets, with analytical and programming skills, good GIS capabilities, with experience using ArcGIS or QGIS. Experience of using LIDAR, aerial photography, wave spectra, topographic, bathymetric data and MATLAB desirable.
