Do you want to make a difference to the quality of our water environment?
You will be working dynamically in a fast-paced national team providing advice and shaping the approach for environmental water quality for the water industry Price Review 2024 and activities across water quality policy development.
You will focus on the Water Industry Price Review, e.g. the Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) for water quality. Tasks will include providing guidance and advice to water companies and operational teams to ensure water quality environmental outcomes are planned for and to communicate effectively the flexibility of approaches that the sector can optimise. Influencing take up of new approaches is key and working on options development and assessment you will be critical to ensuring that legislative requirements are met, while ensuring maximum wider benefits are also achieved.
You will need to optimise skills such as technical knowledge, agility and foresight. Information management and engagement skills will be essential.

You’ll be part of the Water Quality Regulatory Development (WQRD) team in the Environment and Business Directorate. WQRD develop our new regulatory approaches for environmental quality primarily focusing on the Water Industry. You will work closely with wider water quality colleagues including operational teams, Operations Catchment Services and the Price Review Programme Office. The team has a close working relationship with Defra, Natural England and water companies on proactive and reactive work.
Your skills and experience should include knowledge of the Price Review / Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) and water quality legislation and permitting. You should be confident in your ability to proactively develop good relationships and apply excellent, varied communication skills with internal and external customers in a timely way. You should be experienced in designing and explaining new concepts and encouraging implementation via new ways of working. Working on your own initiative and using skills to ensure design, implementation and delivery bring stakeholders with you are essential.
The WQRD team is a dispersed national team. The position is permanent. The location for this role is flexible. You should be proficient in the use of virtual communication tools. Some occasional national travel will be required for internal and external meetings. You should be highly effective working across dispersed teams and with remote management.
