This is an exciting opportunity to lead the operational management of four new groundwater monitoring networks in England (ecology, temperature, wetlands and quality). Under the umbrella of the Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (NCEA) programme, you will use your enthusiasm and extensive technical leadership skills in groundwater monitoring to deliver the operational work needed to implement the new groundwater monitoring networks.

Key responsibilities:
• Leading the operation, management and development of groundwater monitoring networks under the NCEA programme;
• Coordinating, mentoring and managing a dispersed team of Specialists and Officers in Areas responsible for the operation of the new groundwater monitoring networks;
• Being responsible for identifying and managing operational challenges;
• Delivering staff training to ensure consistency of operations across Areas during groundwater monitoring and reporting;
• Writing new operational instructions and leading the update of existing operational instructions for the groundwater monitoring networks;
• Embedded processes (e.g. KPIs) to track delivery;
• Working closely with Natural Capital Ecosystem Assessment colleagues, Monitoring Field Team, Hydrometry & Telemetry, Analysis & Reporting, groundwater specialists in Head Office and Areas;
• Implementing innovative new monitoring techniques;
• Leading on the health & safety requirements for the new monitoring networks.
The NCEA Operations team, are part of National Monitoring – Fish and Ecology. We are a dedicated team of experts who are responsible for the implementation of a large monitoring programme (12 national networks) and increasing capacity of the EA’s laboratories. The programme includes monitoring at a diverse range of habitats including streams, lakes, rivers, groundwater and estuarine and coastal environments.
We are looking for a Groundwater monitoring specialist with excellent technical leadership and people skills. A strong track record in the delivery of monitoring projects for the management and improvement of groundwater is essential.
You will be able to demonstrate:

Ideally the successful candidate will be Chartered with an appropriate professional body, though this is not essential.
Interviews for this post will be held using Microsoft Teams.
As a national role the location is flexible. Travel to various Environment Agency offices may be required as part of the role.
