Groundwater contributes to nearly half of public water supply and is essential for industrial, agricultural and private water supply. It is vital for maintaining the health of rivers and wetlands in the area.

We are looking for someone to join our team to support in protecting this valuable resource. You will be part of a team giving advice, guidance and regulation on hydrogeological matters.  

Work will include responding to planning consultations for housing and commercial development projects. You will provide comments and advice on environmental permits applications across a wide range of areas including water and sewage discharges, site condition reports for waste and abstraction permitting.  Your role will also be to protect and improve groundwater quality by helping to implement strategies for our most sensitive groundwater areas. You will provide groundwater risk assessment advice during pollution incidents. Managing groundwater resources through assessment of applications for new or varied groundwater abstractions, developing groundwater resource assessments and implementing abstraction licence strategies will also form part of the role. You will input to the management of the groundwater monitoring network where required.
You'll also respond to customer enquiries and information requests and work closely with our partners.
The Groundwater & Contaminated Land Team consists of Hydrogeologists and Contaminated Land experts working across 3 offices in the West Midlands. We provide technical expertise on groundwater quality and resource issues including no deterioration of groundwater, the Water Industry National Environment Programme and water resource management plans, internal drought plans and determining water resources licences. We monitor Contaminated Land Remediation projects and also provide advice on waste, water quality and water resources permitting.
• You should be qualified to degree level in a relevant discipline such as geology, hydrogeology or geochemistry.
• Relevant experience in site investigation data/remediation verification reports/groundwater risk assessments and/or a post graduate qualification will be an advantage.
• You'll be a good communicator with time management/data management/interpersonal skills, who can present verbal/written arguments to a wide range of audiences, with the ability to simplify technical detail.
• You’ll be able to produce and interpret data to develop evidence and solve technical issues.
• You should be able to work well as part of a team and across different departments, but also work independently.
• You’ll have good computer skills with the ability to use GIS, MS Office, Outlook, and MS Teams.
• We will support you to work towards Chartered status.
• Full UK Driving Licence required.
