We have an exciting opportunity to join an environmental monitoring team who collect quantative river, groundwater and rainfall data. Our current vacancy has a strong focus on data quality management, which means you will be involved in analysing, validating and quality assuring the data collected and ensuring that it meets our customer needs. It will also give first-hand experience of using the telemetry system to bring near real time data into the office, as well as participate in a range of monitoring methods out in the field.

Your key responsibilities will include:

- Daily checks of our telemetry sites for faults.
- Populating databases with level and flow information.
- Responding to requests for data and helping customers get the information they need.
- Helping us manage our records and information.
- Completing the annual Quality Assurance checks we make on the data from our sites.
- Supporting the team to deliver field monitoring and fault fixing at our telemetry sites.
- Asset management of our monitoring network.
- Participating in standby and call out rotas to ensure effective, efficient, timely and safe responses to incidents.
The Hydrometry and Telemetry team collects and processes hydrometric data which is essential for the assessment and management of water in the environment. We also manage, operate and maintain many hydrometric and field telemetry assets to ensure accurate and reliable data is continuously available for customers. Our monitoring service underpins many of the Environment Agency’s responsibilities relating to flood forecasting, warning, incident management and managing our water resources.
You will need to have an aptitude for numbers, demonstrate a logical and analytical mind, and be prepared to pay special attention to detail when it comes to analysing trends in large data sets.

Other key requirements for this job include excellent communication skills, proficiency in word, excel and database management along with a passion for analysis and problem solving.

As you will also gain experience working in the field, you must be happy to work outdoors and be willing to travel across Hertfordshire and North London to access field sites.
This role is a development role and on successful completion of a development framework the post will become a permanent grade 4 and attract a salary of £28785.
