Do you want to make the world a better place? Are you passionate about protecting against natural threats and hazards? We are looking for great people to join us as Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Officers. You will help to ensure that flood risk is effectively managed to protect communities at risk of flooding. You will engage with our customers to provide great service and play a key role in the smooth running of the team.
You will be encouraged to participate in our management of flood incident response and will receive full training and support to enable you to play your part.
The Partnership & Strategic Overview team is responsible for ensuring that we work effectively with partners to reduce flood risk. The team regulates activities that could affect flood risk and supports wider management of risk through the provision of quality data to customers.
The Programme Team oversees the development and delivery of our capital and maintenance investment, totaling £30m in 2016/17. This investment is fundamental in reducing the risk from flooding in the North East.
You’ll be qualified to at least degree standard (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering or science discipline, ideally with experience in FCRM. Most important is your energy, enthusiasm and willingness to learn with excellent problem solving and communication skills.

You’ll have real desire and commitment to build relationships with our customers and internal teams to achieve our goal of protecting people and property from flooding.

Knowledge and/or experience of the following are desirable:
• development and planning;
• flood legislation;
• river processes, hydraulics, hydrology and the management of flood risk;
• working with partners and customers to achieve outcomes.
