You will help the local authorities identify and develop capital flood risk projects as well as advising them with their other duties under the Floods and Water Management Act. A significant aspect of the role will be to identify, develop and manage flood risk projects in the Environment Agency's capital programme as the senior user. This will involve working with teams across the business and looking for external partnerships where possible. You will also support colleagues within the department on technical matters relating to their projects. All staff are expected to support the organisation's response to flooding incidents so you will receive bespoke training to carry out specific incident response roles.

The team also provide comments on planning applications, determine environmental permits for flood risk activities and coordinate flood risk data and mapping for the department.
Project management or senior user experience is essential as you'll be taking on projects from day 1. Knowledge of the Floods and Water Management Act would be beneficial in order to advise your local authorities effectively. You would need to be good at building relationships with external partners and communities which could include negotiating contributions for our projects. It is important that you are well organised, flexible and able to handle a varied workload to meet occasional short deadlines. There will be opportunities for training and professional development. A science or engineering degree is desirable but previous relevant experience is equally important.
