We’re looking for an Environmental Monitoring Officer to join the Sampling and Collection Team. The role includes field and office-based tasks across various disciplines including water quality, ecology, hydrometry and fish surveying.

You will have responsibilities to;
Maintain and use smart applications on mobile devices to schedule and collect sampling tasks
Arrange the maintenance, service and replacement of a variety of monitoring equipment, such as, field instrumentation, sampling equipment, electric fishing equipment including boats and trailers;
Provide day to day advice and support to other monitoring staff, and lead on routine surveys to provide good quality data and information to customers;
For the Analysis and Reporting Team, duties include laboratory and office based tasks, such as analysis of invertebrate kick samples and data processing;
Maintain databases for site information and equipment records, understand customer requirements and help resolve local issues;
Promote awareness of health, safety and environmental best practice, produce site and task specific risk assessments ensure you use safe working practices to comply with our policies and standards;

You will help with Incident response as required and encouraged to train and assist more widely in incident response for both flooding and environment
The team collects key data and information that underpins much of the Environment Agency’s statutory responsibilities. The data are processed by the Analysis and Reporting team and used by a variety of teams as well as external customers. The team cover a large geographical area including remote rural and urban locations across Greater Manchester, Merseyside & Cheshire.
• must be comfortable working in and near water, be able to swim;
• must be able to work safely and effectively in adverse weather conditions;
• must be competent in the use of computers and mobile technologies;
• must be enthusiastic with good customer relations skills.

Desirables:
• experience in boat handling and off road driving;
• knowledge/experience of freshwater fish survey i.d. and techniques;
• confident working around livestock, loose dogs and wildlife;
• have a practical approach to the maintenance of survey equipment.
The role will be based at the Environment Agency office near Warrington but the fieldwork covers a large geographical area. You will be provided with a site based badged vehicle for fieldwork and expected to work alone in both remote rural and urban locations.
You will receive work related training as well as being supported in your learning and development.

Driving licence required
