We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to work both inside and outside in a customer facing environment. As a lock keeper at Hermitage Lock you will be joining a dynamic team. Working a part time rota to help operate the Lock 9am to 4pm October to March and 9am to 7pm April to September. Working pattern will include regular weekend and Bank holiday working.

Responsibilities include:
• Providing safe passage to boaters and managing activities on and around the lock site, associated structures and reach
• Assisting colleagues and customers with local expertise and knowledge to ensure effective management of the navigation of the river
• Looking after lock buildings, facilities and grounds to provide a safe and clean environment
• Maintaining and developing health & safety good practices
• Developing and maintaining a strong customer service and acting as an ambassador for the Environment Agency
• Undertaking compliance and regulation activities at Level 1 PACE
• Liaising and working with professional partners
• Ensuring efficient record keeping and information storage
• Collecting customer payments including license sales and tolls, and reconciling and managing petty cash.
The Waterways Operations Team manage the navigation on the River Great Ouse and it's tributaries including the Rivers Cam, Lark, Little Ouse and Wissey, approximately 158 miles of navigable waterway including 23 self service locks and 2 tidal manned locks, moorings and other navigation facilities. You'll be part of a wider team that manages enforcement, asset inspection and operational sites. This role will be based at our manned site - Hermitage Lock, Earith.
