The Environment Agency is increasingly establishing its strategic role as a place making organisation, focused on creating the right environmental conditions and building long term resilience to underpin and unlock sustainable growth and economic prosperity. We see many opportunities to integrate the environment into the heart of sustainable growth. We are keen to ensure current and future environmental infrastructure is recognised as a foundation of prosperity and an integral part of place shaping activities. West Midlands is at the heart of these opportunities. The Midlands Engine, HS2, City of Culture, Commonwealth Games, resurgence of the Potteries and the influence of the Northern Powerhouse all combine to make it a potentially generationally-unique opportunity to deliver more.

Working closely with the Sustainable Growth Manager you will support new strategic partnerships and investment planning, aligning environmental infrastructure needs with growth aspirations and delivery. You will be responsible for:
•translating our data into meaningful intelligence to aid long term strategic thinking
•creatively utilising visualisation tools to evidence environmental impacts and opportunities and their alignment to growth
•developing methodologies which showcase the economic and place shaping benefits of environmental actions
•delivering West Midland wide place and project specific investment plans which help attract partner resources
Led by the Sustainable Growth Manager, the Economic Growth and Prosperity Team are an integral part of Flood and Coastal Risk Management, albeit with responsibility for a business wide approach to growth activity across the West Midlands including land and water and regulated industry. The role will support place based working, developing robust intelligence and toolkits for use by Senior Management to inform engagement with strategic partners and investors.
You will have a strong ability to innovate and think creatively, exploring the commercial aspects of our work and translating information into intelligence which aligns with partner needs and economic growth and prosperity investment drivers.
You will have excellent skills in data interpretation and interrelationships between different datasets, with a proven ability to manipulate evidence visually via GIS.
You will have an understanding of the Environment Agency and economic growth and development partners across the West Midlands so as to identify potential opportunities to get the best possible outcome from strategic level engagement.
You will be a self motivated leader who is confident working alone, with strong data and project management skills, including the ability to work with and train others in data analysis and use of GIS.
You will have the ability to work flexibly and at pace to meet business and partner needs.
The role is initially for a 2 year fixed term but with potential to be made permanent
Based within the West Midlands Area, your work could touch any part of our geography. Base location is flexible. Travel across the West Midlands will be required.
Our staff are all expected to undertake an incident role, which may require out of hours work.
