We are seeking an enthusiastic team member to join the Yorkshire Area Groundwater & Contaminated Land (GWCL) team, based in Leeds or York.

The main duties will be;

1) Help to deliver Water Framework Directive measures and environmental improvements across Yorkshire
2) Give advice to local planning authorities on brownfield developments or developments that may pose a risk to future groundwater resources
3) Work with our National Permitting Service (NPS) to provide technical advice to determine permits to abstract groundwater and discharge to ground
4) Provide technical advice and support to internal teams within the Agency such as Integrated Environmental Planning, Environment Management, Customers and Engagement and Regulated Industry teams
5) Involvement in abstraction licencing and drought planning

Integrated catchment work and involvement in carbon reduction schemes as part of our Climate Action Plan and EA 2025.

•Managing our groundwater level and quality network boreholes
•Landfill, waste sites and pollution incidents that could affect groundwater

The Yorkshire GWCL Team is multifunctional, inclusive, and friendly with a wealth of technical knowledge we are happy to share with you. Our primary goals are protecting groundwater as a vital resource for current and future generations and dealing with land contamination legacies.

Stretching from North Derbyshire to Scotch Corner, our Area provides a range of interesting challenges including urban redevelopment, intensive and extensive farming and state of the art mining and energy production.
We’re seeking an experienced Technical Officer with an understanding of Water Resources Management, Town and Country Planning, the Water Framework Directive, Environmental Permitting regulations, and excellent self-management skills. You’ll be qualified to at least degree level (or equivalent) in a Geoscience related discipline and possess proven ability/knowledge of:

• Hydrogeology;
• Groundwater protection;
• Applying a risk-based approach to your work;
• Influencing and securing commitment from third parties;
• Multi-dimensional conceptualisation;

Other key requirements for this job include excellent communication skills, proficiency in GIS, data handling and time and file management and developed organisational skills.
The role will be based in either the York, Beverley, Leeds, or Rotherham office and may require the post holder to travel to other office locations in the Area for meetings and to undertake occasional site visits. On occasion you may need to travel beyond the Area. As a result, a full UK driving licence would be an advantage.

Part time and job share also considered.

Full clean UK Driving Licence.
