This is a hands on role involving, working together as a team and being outside in all weathers.

Using a variety of tools and equipment to carry out tasks such as small projects and operation of plant and equipment.

Proving response to flood and environmental incidents inside and outside of normal working hours by participating in training and exercising, deploying various flood defences such as temporary flood barriers, mobile pumps and sand bags.

Maintaining assets and watercourses throughout the area.

Communicating with the general public, landowners and customers.
We are the Birmingham & Black Country Field Team based at Halfords Lane Depot, Smethwick, West Midlands, we operate and maintain assets and watercourse across the Birmingham & Black Country area, we work closely with our colleagues in the Environment Agency providing a 24/7 incident response service both in our own are and nationally.
A good working knowledge of small plant and equipment is required and you will be prepared to undertake any training as when needed

You will have a good knowledge of Health, Safety and Wellbeing.

Good communication skills are essential.

Be adaptable with a positive friendly attitude essential to working in a team.

Literacy and numeracy skills are required.

Competent in using IT devices such as an iPad and mobile technology is required and be willing to learn our in house systems.

You will be enrolled on the Level 3 Water Environment Worker Apprenticeship to help you achieve the right competencies to be a professional asset operator, maintainer and incident responder.

You will be required to participate in our 24/7 incident response rota.
