We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated person to lead, direct and motivate a front-line Field team in Hertfordshire and North London Flood and Coastal Risk Management Operations.
Managing our Field Team for the Upper Colne area, you’ll ensure they are ready to respond to any flooding incident or emergency. Your team will deliver a fast paced programme of maintenance works for our rivers and flood risk management structures which is essential for protecting people, property and wildlife.
You should have outstanding leadership qualities, and be able to remain positive and focused on the key priorities, using your initiative to take timely decisions, and manage and prioritise a varied workload. You will have a strong commitment to people- supporting your team’s personal development and ensuring your team is trained to the highest standards, and up to date with all health and safety and construction legislation and requirements.
This is a permanent post based from our Hanwell depot in North London. Travel within the Herts and North London area (HNL), to other offices / depots and for site visits, will be required.
The Upper Colne Field Team, based out of our Hanwell depot, is responsible for operating and maintaining the flood risk management assets (e.g. reservoirs, flood banks, gates/sluices) in the Upper Colne catchment. The team will also work flexibly within HNL Area supporting the work of other field teams where required.
As incident responders the team will support our preparation and response to flooding and environmental incidents within the Upper Colne catchment and across HNL Area.
Passionate about the environment, you will have the skills and knowledge necessary to lead people. Ideally, you should also have operational flood risk management or construction/maintenance management experience and be up to date with current health and safety and construction legislation.
Through experience to date you will be able to demonstrate some of the following:
• Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, able to act as a role model with a can-do approach.
• Able to resource, prioritise and deliver a work programme, delegating tasks and tracking performance effectively.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation and practices with experience of managing small scale construction/maintenance projects safely
• You must be able to take initiative, be flexible, solve problems and make decisions
• Experience in monitoring and improving performance
• Able to operate computer programmes effectively with good IT skills.
A full UK driving licence is essential.
