We are looking for individuals and professionals with knowledge and experience of different industrial sectors, who will be responsible for the regulation of installations under the Environmental Permitting Regulations. You'll ensure permit compliance, making complex assessments of operator ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution and optimise use of resources.

One post will be based in Penrith and this person must have significant experience of Landfill.
The second post will be based in Preston and will focus on our other sectors.

You'll have comprehensive technical and leadership skills, be able to use influencing and negotiating skills to secure best practice, often dealing with people at senior levels within industry, local communities and other interested groups. You'll be expected to respond to, investigate and undertake enforcement to a range of environmental incidents.
The posts will be in the Installations Cumbria and Lancashire teams covering sites across Cumbria and Lancashire. The area provides a diverse range of environmental challenges, stretching from the highly industrialised East Lancashire and West Cumbria plus the more rural areas of both counties.

You'll also have a key input to the Area, in supporting and advising other teams on industry sector regulation, compliance, advice and guidance.
• Significant regulatory and/or industrial experience across a range of different industries,
• Confident communicator able to demonstrate excellent influencing skills and success in developing good relations with difficult people and situations.
• Adaptable and resilient in behaviour with different people and situations, able to deal with difficult customers and confrontation.
• Ability to manage multiple demands on time in a prioritised manner to achieve good outcomes and deliver against plans, You may be expected to regulate abattoirs and animal by-products processing sites.
• Track record of taking the initiative and using a continuous improvement approach. Adapting readily to new ways of working.
• Be flexible in their approach and have a "can do" attitude, and be able to make change happen.
