You’ll minimise the impact of flooding on communities through the provision of effective flood warning, reviewing and improving the flood warning service, utilising model outputs and technology systems required to deliver. You’ll self-determine work required or direct others to amend warnings and improve the service we offer. You’ll know what data is required to improve warnings and can access and gather it, by surveying or accessing info through model surveys or historical info. You will deliver training and guidance to duty officers to ensure flood warning messages are of a high standard. You will work with the national teams to review and improve take up of the warning service. You will use the Flood Warning Service to make changes to flood warning outlines and act as the point of contact for service improvements with support from others. You will ensure that appropriate duty officers are kept informed on flood warning service improvements. You’ll also be responsible for providing leadership and support to other members of the team.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Flood Resilience team, undertaking strategic plans for the Agency’s response to incidents and ensuring Environment Agency staff are effectively prepared.

The Flood Resilience Team is at the heart of the Environment Agency's incident management in Kent & South London. It is our job to ensure that we, our partners, and our communities are prepared for flooding, and are able to respond effectively before, during and after flooding.
You can request, review and interpret model information, working closely with the forecasting business partner to lead and direct others within the team to ensure appropriate thresholds and timely warnings are set.

You can review, audit and sign off complex or high profile work done by others – either within the team or consultants.

You successfully coach or provide technical advice to train staff on flood warning tools, techniques, and the systems used.

You work strategically within the area to develop working practices which promote joined up working.

You work with colleagues to formulate improvement and expansion programmes to complement flood warning coverage expansion work plans.

You ensure that changes made internally to outlines and thresholds are reflected in external partner procedures and plans.

You adopt and promote consistency in reviewing warnings.
