We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Fitter to provide a maintenance service to the business for mechanical, hydraulic & low voltage electrical assets (locks, weirs, other flood defence structures). Good inter-personal / communications skills are essential as you will have a regularly interface with members of the public and our professional partners.
We currently have 2 vacancies within the team based at one of our three depots at Oxford, Reading and Sunbury. The position requires you to be on a standby roster providing call out cover for a 24/7 period on a 1 in 5/6 week frequency.
This position requires manual handling of bulky components in remote, hard to access places. You will also be required to use various hand tools including vibrating equipment.
The work is predominately outside, so you will be working in all weather conditions.
The team consists of 8 mechanical fitters who cover the assets on the entire length of the River Thames including its tributaries.
You will need to have a mechanical professional qualification (city and guilds or similar) and be able to use your intuitive to work alone and as part of a team. The work will involve the use of iPad to receive work instructions so computer skills would be an advantage but training will be given.
The role involves boat work for which training will be given. Occasionally we work in confined spaces training will be given. A licence to drive L.G.V’s would be useful, but not essential.
