We are the Environment Agency. We protect and improve the environment. Acting to reduce the impacts of a changing climate on people and wildlife is at the heart of everything we do. We work with government, local councils, businesses, civil society groups and communities to make our environment a better place for people and wildlife.

This is an exciting role, helping to shape our work and messages for key partners, customers and stakeholders. You’ll help plan engagement events and activities for our Chief Executive, identifying and researching opportunities, and liaising with our teams across the country to make these happen. You’ll make sure we’re talking to the right people, and saying the right thing.

The postholder will also be expected to undertake an incident role, and to play a part in supporting our incident management team in central London in the event of flooding or other environmental incidents, so some out of hours work will be required.
You’ll lead the Chief Executive and Chief of Staff's teams, based in central London, so people skills are key. We operate in a fast-paced environment, often reacting quickly to changes or new information. We provide advice and support for our senior team, including the Chief Executive and Chair, so you’ll need to be comfortable working with senior people.

Some national travel is expected, as the role supports the Chief Executive on visits and at meetings.
You will have first-class communications skills and the ability to develop strong relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders. You’ll have experience of organising events, visits and engagement activities with internal and external partners. You’ll be organised with a great eye for detail, and able to spot and exploit opportunities. You’ll have experience of leading and motivating a high-performing team, and of working with others to deliver a great programme of events and activities. Good political awareness would be a distinct advantage in this role.

Don’t be put off applying if you don’t have a degree – more important is:

• Experience of delivering great engagement events and activities
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands
• Great writing skills, and a talent for communicating ideas
• A passion for leading and motivating teams
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and react to a fast-changing environment
