We are looking to recruit a Senior Permitting Officer to be based in one of the Installations permitting teams in Nottingham. You will determine complex applications for Installations environmental permits for a range of process industry sectors. You will coach and mentor others on technical and procedural processes to develop both individual and team knowledge and resilience. You will ensure appropriate standards are met in accordance with Environment Agency policies and procedures.
The team has responsibility for determining Installations permit applications submitted to the Environment Agency. You will be joining an established team that strives to enable businesses to operate whilst protecting the environment. The work delivered by the National Permitting Service helps deliver the Environment Agency’s permitting and regulatory responsibilities.
Senior Permitting Officers are required to have experience in environmental management and a degree in a science or humanities subject. You will need to have knowledge of the processes required for determining a range of complex permits, the assessment of best available techniques and environmental impact. You will need the skills to coach and mentor others in these areas. You will need excellent customer relations skills with knowledge of Environment Agency duties and responsibilities to meet customer needs. Additionally you will be expected to have:
• Technical knowledge of a range of process industries
• Risk based decision making and problem solving skills
• Good communication and planning skills
• The ability to influence and persuade others
• The ability to work collaboratively with others
• Knowledge of relevant legislation with a detailed understanding of the Environmental Permitting Regulations and how they relate to the permitting process
